...(Sanskrit) place of refuge; union; that on which anything depends or rests.
Based in the Mid-Hudson Valley, Caitilin Twain helps her yoga students learn how their practice can be their "place of refuge", and how ultimately yoga can help them experience a "union" within themselves and with those around them. In this way, we can live in the awareness that we are all "that on which anything depends or rests".
Why Yoga?
When the restlessness of the mind, intellect and self is stilled through the practice of Yoga, the yogi by the grace of the Spirit within himself finds fulfillment. -Bhagavad Gita
Millions of people across the globe are committed to Yoga, because it is through this practice that we finally feel the expansiveness, freedom and joy that are our birthright. As our bodies become strong and flexible, so too our minds and spirits. As we explore backbends our hearts open with compassion towards ourselves and others. Inversions teach us steadiness and poise when our lives are topsy-turvy. Ultimately, yoga leads to a quiet mind, which is the gateway to our own divine spirit.
There are many schools of Yoga. Caitilin has studied the Iyengar and Anusara traditions most extensively. These schools of yoga are alignment based, and respect each student's abilities and limitations. Because no two bodies are the same, no two practices will be alike, and Caitilin offers variations on each pose, with props as necessary, so that all students can safely experience yoga.
Open classes are an economical way to learn yoga. Also, there tends to be a higher energy in the room which can be healing and supportive. Caitilin teaches open classes in Rhinebeck, New York. For public teaching times and location, see Satyayogacenter.us and visit the Summer Studio link on this website.
There are many reasons why private yoga instruction is appropriate:
- You wish to develop your existing practice further, and would like to have a few private sessions to go over your own specific questions. - You are working with concerns that require a customized lesson, and the constant attention of your teacher (back problems, post-operation rehabilitation, illness, anxiety, for example). - You prefer to practice in privacy, either at your own home or at a studio. - You want to begin yoga, but would like a few "primer courses" so you know what to expect in an open class.
Private Groups are also popular:
- Around a major celebration, reunion, or company retreat. - As an activity that friends do together on a regular basis. - At the workplace, so that employees are calmer, healthier, and ultimately more productive.
